Birth Doula Services
Offered by Julie Ferdman
I am happy to be offering doula services to families in the Columbia area. Many families enjoy the continuity of presence and value the support that a doula provides throughout pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum time of transition. I believe that pregnancy and childbirth can be central times of growth and transformation for mothers and families, and deeply enjoy the work of supporting families in whatever ways are best suited to their situation.
What I can offer prenatally takes many forms, including helping people to navigate the medical maternity care system in empowered ways, working prenatally to prepare for childbirth, phone and email availability throughout pregnancy, assisting with the creation of a birth plan, and helping think about and plan for postpartum support.
During labor, I may support a mother and her family in the following ways: Providing a calm and consistent presence, encouraging fathers/partners to care well for themselves to maintain energy, assisting with coping and comfort measures (breathing, massage, etc.), responding to whatever a mother might be feeling or needing as her labor progresses, keeping an eye towards empowering fathers to take as active a role as they would like, and assisting with complete and respectful communication - between partners, with medical staff, etc.
During the postpartum period, I can offer support with breastfeeding, reflecting on the birth experience, and general well-being, including referrals to other care providers/support within the community.
My services include:
Up to 3 Prenatal visits
Phone and text support throughout pregnancy
Continuous presence during labor and birth
2 Postpartum visits
Please contact Julie to set up a free consultation to see if we are a good fit, and to discuss pricing and payment.
