My first experience with midwives was during my second pregnancy. The woman who provided my care brought a wealth of knowledge and expertise about pregnancy and birth. Her nurturing and empowering care was such a stark contrast to what I had experienced firsthand and observed as a doula in the hospital, that I knew two things: I would never plan on delivering in the hospital again, and I would start on the path to becoming a midwife myself. Since then, I have come many miles. My three kids, my husband and I moved from our hometown of St. Louis to our own little slice of paradise on a couple of acres in Columbia in 2008. In 2019, I graduated from Midwives’ College of Utah and became a Certified Professional Midwife. Throughout my apprenticeship I had the opportunity to travel and practice in Missouri, Utah, and Wisconsin. I feel lucky to have learned from a wide variety of teachers, and enjoy drawing from their different styles to provide a unique experience to each client I serve. I believe that educating expectant parents and respecting their autonomy is the key to ushering them through a safe, satisfying birth experience that will provide a strong foundation for them to embark on the challenge of raising their children with wisdom and grace.
